Alton Sterling

was fatally shot on July 5, 2016, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana while being held on the ground by police outside of a Louisiana convenience store. In March 2018, the Office of Louisiana’s Attorney General announced it would not bring charges against the two officers involved in Sterling’s killing. On March 30, 2018, Paul Murphy, Baton Rouge Chief of Police announced Officer Salamoni was fired for violating use of force policies, and Officer Lake was suspended for his involvement in Sterling’s death.
